Summary

Derives five phenomenological axioms (consciousness is real, structured, specific, unitary, definite) and corresponding physical postulates. Consciousness = integrated information (Φ). IIT-3.0 (2016) formalized mathematical tools (PyPhi); IIT-4.0 (2023) introduced the "unfolding" framework.

Why It Matters

The only mathematical theory of consciousness with a proposed metric (Φ). Inspired the largest adversarial collaboration in consciousness science (Cogitate Consortium vs. GNW). Clinically validated PCI.
